BYU Tight End Noah Moeaki Returns From His Mission

Earlier this week, former BYU signee Noah Moeaki returned home from his two-year mission with The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints in Brazil. Moeaki, who was signed as an athlete out of American Fork High School back in the 2022 signing class, played both tight end and linebacker for the Cavemen. Last week on signing day, BYU announced the eight returned missionaries that would join the program in time for the 2024 season. Moeaki was one of the eight, and he was announced as a tight end.

Moeaki was one of BYU's earliest commits in the 2022 class. He was locked in with the Cougars despite offers from other in-state schools like Utah and Utah State. He also picked up offers from San Diego State and Air Force along the way.

Moeaki is a smooth operator. His athleticism is effortless, perhaps stemming from his background playing basketball. He comes from a BYU family - he is the son a John Moeaki who played for BYU in 1994. Moeaki was a three-star recruit and a top 10 player in the state according to 247Sports.

Noah was so locked in with BYU that his signing flew slightly under the radar. But make no mistake, he absolutely has the ability to become a starting-caliber tight end at BYU. Moeaki's contributions in 2024 will come down to how quickly he can shake the mission rust. Returning home in February will give him a few extra months to prepare, but it is always a long path back to the playing field for returned missionaries.

Needless to say, a few things have changed at BYU since Noah signed his national letter of intent. Most notably, BYU is now a member of the Big 12 conference. Moeaki is also returning home to a new tight ends coach. The Cougars hired Kevin Gilbride earlier this year.

Moeaki has a few months to adjust and get ready for Fall camp. While you might not hear his name a lot this Fall, he will certainly factor in down the road.
