Colorado's Deion Sanders changes recruiting with reportedly no home visits
Coach Prime has become a trailblazer in college football, but the latest report is more evidence of his impact on the game. The Hall-of-Famer has pulled in some of the nation's top recruits without leaving Boulder. Not once. That's at least according to a report from USA TODAY and confirmed by University of Colorado officials.
Deion Sanders has used the backdrop of the Flatirons to sell the program and hasn't relied on using private air travel to pull in recruits, which is part of the budget provided to him by CU.
But really, it's also a genius tactic by Sanders who knows his best asset is having players experience campus for themselves. There is only so much he could do on the road and keeping the arrangements in Boulder allows him to reach more than one recruit at a time. However, what the report failed to mention was Sanders being out-of-commission for months due to blood clots in both legs.
Now, as for Sanders’ assistant coaches, they've put in much of the time on the road. The group logged over 90 off-campus meetings during the past year, according to the report. But that's common with any setup in recruiting. It's still less travel than other programs.
"Records obtained by USA TODAY Sports also show he never even had to leave campus to seal the deal with them or any others. The university confirmed that "Coach Prime" has made no off-campus contacts with recruiting prospects since he was hired there in early December 2022."
Just for reference, former Michigan coach Jim Harbaugh had the most with "145 off-campus contacts" in the same timeframe, according to the report.
Sanders and the Buffs wrapped up this year's official recruiting class with the 21st combined ranked class, according to 247Sports. A total of 24 players have come to Boulder from the transfer portal with another window opening before the start of the 2024 football season.
