Gators Legacy WR Includes Florida in Top 11

Jones High School (Orlando, Fla.) wideout Vernell Brown III named the Florida Gators to his top 11 schools list on Thursday.

Highly regarded Gators wide receiver target Vernell Brown III trimmed his list of option to a top 11 list on Thursday afternoon.

He included Florida alongside Alabama, Clemson, Florida State, Louisville, Miami, Ohio State, Stanford, Syracuse, Tennessee and UCF as the programs moving forward in his recruitment process.

The Jones High School (Orlando, Fla.) prospect realized a breakout season as a junior, compiling over 2,000 all-purpose yards and 14 touchdowns (10 as a pass catcher and four as a return man) while serving as a Swiss-army knife weapon for the Tigers.

He saw time on both sides of the ball for Jones a year ago, primarily aligning as a wideout where he demonstrated impressive short-area speed, explosiveness and change of direction ability as a route runner to garner considerable attention from powerhouse Division-I programs.

Standing at 5-foot-11, 170 pounds, Brown projects to serve out of the slot at the next level. The Gators continue to aggressively pursue talent at the position this cycle.

Brown is a legacy of the University of Florida, resulting in a long-term connection to the program.

His father, Vernell Brown Jr., performed at Florida from 2001-2005, appearing in 45 games with 11 starts as a defensive back. He recently occupied several support staff roles at UF from 2018-22 before departing last offseason to become the personal manager for former Gators and current Indianapolis Colts quarterback Anthony Richardson.

Despite Brown Jr.’s move away from Florida, Billy Napier, Billy Gonzales and Co. have maintained a promising standing for the heavily sought-after second-generation talent in Brown III.

He is considered the nation’s No. 11 ATH and No. 249 overall player in the 2025 class per 247Sports Composite rankings.
