BREAKING: Michigan State Lands Its Quarterback For 2024 Class

The Spartans have landed their signal-caller for the 2024 recruiting cycle!

Michigan State head coach Mel Tucker and offensive coordinator Jay Johnson have their quarterback for the 2024 recruiting class.

Late Friday evening, three-star Westwood (Mass.) Xaverian Brothers signal-caller Henry Hasselbeck, son of longtime NFL quarterback Matt Hasselbeck, gave his verbal pledge to the Spartans, ending a lengthy search by MSU's offensive staff to find its next QB commit.

At 6-foot-2 and 165 pounds, the younger Hasselbeck had long been committed to the University of Maryland to play collegiate lacrosse. However, his football recruitment has taken off in recent weeks with Power 5 conference schools like Michigan State, Pittsburgh, Boston College and Arizona each offering scholarships, as well as multiple mid-major programs.

With that, Hasselbeck announced on Friday that he was decommitting from Maryland lacrosse to pursue college football. Hours later, he pledged to the Spartans.

Although Hasselbeck is a little undersized for a Power 5 quarterback commit, this was by design to keep his weight down for lacrosse. Hasselbeck will benefit greatly once he enters the Spartans' strength and conditioning program. The Massachusetts’ native pedigree as the son of an NFL quarterback will make him an intriguing prospect to watch in the coming years.

A three-star recruit, Hasselbeck is considered the No. 1128 overall prospect, No. 67 quarterback and No. 5 player from the state of Massachusetts, according to 247Sports' composite rankings. He becomes Michigan State’s 10th commit in the 2024 class.

After a slow start to this recruiting cycle, Tucker and his staff have put together a string of verbal pledges over the last two-plus weeks from four-star tailback Anthony Carrie, three-star defensive back Syair Torrence, three-star offensive linemen Mercer and Charlton Luniewski, three-star safety Reggie Powers and three-star defensive back Camren Campbell.

Michigan State had previously earned commitments from three-star cornerback Jaylen Thompson and three-star offensive linemen Andrew Dennis and Logan Bennett.
