In the final game of their series against Purdue Fort Wayne, Missouri combined for 20 runs throughout the game to put up back-to-back run-rule games.

The Tigers split the series 2-2 with the Mastodons, losing the first two games of the series 9-7 in each, and then coming back in the second game of the doubleheader for an 11-1 win.

Missouri followed suit from game three of the series to quickly load the bases. The second inning seemed like it would never end with the Tigers putting up five hits and six walks in the inning. Missouri brought eight Tigers home in that one inning alone.

The bats didn’t stop after the second inning. A double down the left field line from Tucker Moore, Trevor Austin put up his fourth home run of the weekend to advance the lead to 10-0 in the bottom of the third. Jedier Hernandez kept the scoring going with a two-run double before Kaden Peer closed the inning with a strikeout.

Kerrick Jackson felt comfortable enough with their 12-run lead to take out four of his starters. Drew Culbertson made his first appearance since the Northern Kentucky series and Isaiah Frost, Brock Daniels and RJ Jimerson. But the replacements didn’t slack off, Isaiah Frost got a double in his pinch-hit appearance and four RBIs, Drew Culbertson hit a single, and Brock Daniels hit a two-run home run and a sacrifice fly.

It just kept going after that. Missouri put up another six runs in the bottom of the fifth. Brock Daniels and Jackson Lovich went back-to-back with home runs to put the Tigers up by 18 runs. Two more runs came around to score in the bottom of the sixth to put up 20 runs for the Tigers.

The Mastodons were finally able to get runs on the board in the top of the sixth after the Tigers took out Logan Lunceford and put in Ben Smith for relief. Smith gave up a two-run homer to Justin Osterhouse, which was his fourth of the series.

After a couple rough outings, Logan Lunceford was due for a good day. He tossed five shutout innings to earn his first win of the season. In those five innings, Lunceford only put up one strikeout and the Tigers had two on the game, with the other coming from Kaden Jacobi in the seventh to close the game.

Missouri’s record improved to 8-8 on the season and Purdue Fort Wayne dropped to 6-11. The Tigers are back in action on Tuesday, March 12 against rival Kansas University in Kansas.
