Purdue Boilermakers vs. Virginia Tech Hokies Prediction for CFB This Week

As mentioned in the intro, Purdue lost its first game against Fresno State by a score of 39-35. Purdue was a -3.5-point favorite in the game but lost the game after Fresno State scored with a minute left in the game. The Boilermakers finished with a higher yards-per-play and won the turnover battle against Fresno State, but Purdue ran 22 fewer plays than Fresno State. The main reason for this is that Fresno State was 11/17 on third down.

Virginia Tech had no trouble with Old Dominion, but Purdue should provide a much tougher test for the Hokies. Old Dominion finished 3-9 last season and was picked to finish last in the Sun Belt this season. The Hokies forced three turnovers and quarterback Grant Wells had a great day passing.

Based on the matchup, our experts’ Purdue vs. Virginia Tech prediction is for the game to stay under the total. The recommended bet in this game is Under 49 (-110 at BetMGM Sportsbook). Use our link to join BetMGM to fade or follow our Purdue vs. Virginia Tech prediction.

Purdue vs. Virginia Tech Picks & CFB Best Bets for Saturday Featuring Under 49

The Purdue vs. Virginia Tech prediction from our experts is for points to be at a premium in this matchup. One main reason is due to the anticipated weather forecast for the game. There are expected to be rainy and windy conditions across the East Coast this weekend, including in Blacksburg, Virginia where this game will be played. If conditions are less than ideal, the schematic matchup could favor the under.

As mentioned above, Virginia Tech quarterback Grant Wells had a great game against Old Dominion. Wells threw for 251 yards and three touchdowns and did not turn the ball over at all. It’s a good thing that Wells had a solid performance, as the Hokies were only able to rush for 2.54 yards per carry against the Old Dominion defense.

Purdue allowed Fresno State quarterback Mikey Keene to complete over 70% of his passes and throw for 366 yards and four touchdowns last week, so the weakness of the Purdue defense appears to be its secondary. However, if the weather is poor, it could limit the amount that Virginia Tech can expose Purdue’s weakness.

Our experts’ best bet in this matchup is Under 49 (-110 at BetMGM Sportsbook). Click here to fade our follow our Purdue vs. Virginia Tech prediction at BetMGM to receive up to $1,500 in bonus bets if your first bet doesn’t win.
