Syracuse Orange vs. Purdue Boilermakers Prediction: CFB This Week
We mentioned that last year’s clash between the Boilermakers and the Orange was a great one, but it’s not one that happens often. Prior to last season, this Big Ten vs. ACC battle occurred just one other time, with Purdue coming out on top.
Of course, plenty has changed since then, and even plenty has changed since just last season’s meeting. There’s no denying that Purdue looks different now that QB Aidan O’Connell is now in the NFL, while Syracuse has an experienced QB in Garrett Shrader returning from an injury that cut a fantastic season short.
Just as the oddsmakers are, we’re expecting another close matchup, so we’re going to be focusing on the over/under with our Syracuse vs. Purdue prediction instead.

Not only are oddsmakers expecting another close contest, but they also have been fluctuating in terms of who they even think will win this weekend. The Boilermakers opened as favorites as high as 3.5 points, and things have swung so much that the Orange are now favored by nearly three points.

Instead, we’re going to be targeting a low-scoring game, much like Purdue had just last weekend. This will also be Syracuse’s first true test of 2023. They’ve started their season with two home games against Colgate and Western Michigan. That’s two programs who are clearly inferior opponents, so don’t let those final results hold as much weight now that they’re facing a Big Ten program.
It will also be their first road game of the season, which is certainly a huge factor in college football. We also don’t expect Purdue to light up the scoreboard given how the offense has looked without O’Connell under center.
