DALLAS — SMU coach Rhett Lashlee missed his voice for about 24 hours, but he may have been the only one in his house who did. It didn't have much effect on the outcome of the game as the Mustangs came home with a bunch 55-0 win.

"'Man, it was fun while it lasted,'" his wife, Laura, told him when he got it back. "It was weird. That's never happened, so anytime something in 40 years has never happened it's noteworthy for me."

The Mustangs were ahead, 21-0, and weren't looking back. The opponent for homecoming on Saturday is Tulsa and it's probably the best team they've played in a few weeks. The coaches, including, Lashlee know this. The Golden Hurricane have been a thorn in the Ponies' side quite frequently.

"They have a habit of beating us a lot, especially here," Lashlee said. "I know they did the last time they were here. It's good to be back home and first time over a month but we've got to keep the momentum going."

Let's face it, whether anyone wants to admit it, the past couple of games against UNC-Charlotte and Temple were against heavily overmatched teams. Now the big thing may be avoiding a letdown, something Lashlee has avoided. Tulsa can make it much more difficult to keep the ball rolling down the hill it's on.

"We've got to continue to build momentum," Lashlee said. "I expect [Tulsa] to come in here and be a tough team to beat and make us beat them. We're going to have to go earn the win. We have to play really well. There's human element to past games good and bad, that always affects teams. You don't really know how it's affecting them or us unless you're there. Week to week, it's going to come down who plays the best. Hopefully, we can continue to take the next step like we have the last few weeks and continue to improve and if so, I like our chances."

Saturday's homecoming match-up with Tulsa in Gerald J. Ford Stadium will kickoff at 11 a.m. The game will air on ESPNU or can be heard in the DFW area on The Ticket 96.7 FM and 1310 AM.
