Utah Baseball Bests Washington State as Pac-12 Play Gets Underway

After a 12-game stay in California in which the Utes emerged with a 9-3 record, and the best start to a season since 1980, Utah traveled up to Pullman to kick off Pac-12 play against Washington State.

Going into the conference series opener, the Utes had lost to Cal Poly and Santa Clara, and the slump continued as they lost the first game in the three-game series 1-7.

However, Utah didn't let their losing streak slide any further, winning the final two games of the Pac-12 opener 7-6 and 5-4, moving their record to 11-4 on the year and 2-1 in the conference.

Kai Roberts was on fire against the Cougars, cracking a homer to left field and earning another RBI on a left-side single in the 7-6 win, while also launching another home run and smacking a game-winning RBI double to left in the 5-4 win.

The road trip finally ends for the Utes as they find themselves back at Smith's Ballpark where they will face arch-rivals BYU in the home opener on March 12th.

Following that, Utah has a tough three-game weekend slate at home against #3 Oregon State and top prospect Travis Bazzana.
