3-Star Linebacker Polu Encouraged by Washington Visit

The Huskies hosted a class of 2025 recruit from Utah this past weekend for an unofficial visit.

Utah linebacker recruit Cyrus Polu has spent a significant amount of time building relationships with several members of coach Jedd Fisch's coaching staff over the past year, first at Arizona and now at Washington.

The 6-foot-2, 205-pound linebacker out of Desert Hills High School in Saint George, ranked as a 3-star prospect in the 2025 recruiting class by 247sports, made three unofficial visits to Arizona after receiving an offer from the Wildcats last January.

With Fisch now leading the Huskies' football program, the connection to Polu remains.

This past weekend, Polu took an unofficial visit to UW and spent a majority of his time talking to players and learning about the program. He came away enthused.

"A lot, to be honest," Polu said, when asked how much his interest in the UW has increased. "I talked with some of the players and everything the coaches were saying was all true, which is great to hear."

Polu had a conversation with senior linebacker Alphonzo Tuputala, one of just two returning starters from the national championship game lineup, and it left a lasting impression.

However, others in Seattle left an impact on Polu, as well.

"[It's] how many connections Washington has after you're done with football," he said. "You have alumni that will sit down and talk to you about which field you want to go in, and I thought that was super cool."

Polu developed a strong rapport at Arizona with new UW defensive-line coach Jason Kaufusi, who served as outside linebackers coach for the Wildcats the past two seasons, and that relationship remains.

The expectation moving forward is no matter who coaches his position, Polu envisions Kaufusi still playing a significant role in his linebacker recruitment.

Polu is confident in his ability to play a number of positions on defense. He's lined up at defensive end, linebacker and most recently at safety as a junior this past season.

"Honestly I feel like you could put me anywhere," he said.

In his three varsity seasons for Desert Hills High, Polu has recorded 123 tackles, including 9 tackles for loss, plus 7 interceptions and 3 sacks in 36 games.
