ESPN honors Stuart Scott with 'SportsCenter' studio tribute
The floor outside ESPN's SportsCenter studio in Bristol, Conn., is adorned with some of Stuart Scott's most famous catchphrases, and after his death on Sunday, the signage became an ideal place for tributes.
Scott, a former SportsCenter anchor and wildly popular ESPN personality, died after a lengthy battle with cancer on Sunday. Scott fought the disease very publicly, drawing moving coverage from The New York Times and giving a passionate speech at the 2014 ESPY Awards after he was presented with the Jimmy V Award.
Tributes for Scott have come from across the sports world. NFL and NBA games held moments of silence over the weekend, The Virginian-Pilot published a wonderful front page full of headlines quoting Scott's trademark catchphrases, fans at a North Carolina -- Scott's alma mater -- basketball game held up "Stu" signs and Kevin Durant wrote "Boo-Yah, RIP The Great Stuart Scott" on his shoe.
ESPN also aired a moving 15-minute tribute shortly after Scott's death was announced. SI's Richard Deitsch went inside the production of the video, which ESPN staffers hoped they would never have to air.
