Beards have been around for a very long time, and so has Dodgers’ beloved broadcaster Vin Scully, which makes him the perfect man to walk baseball fans through the history of beards and their importance to humans.

Scully got started on the delightful aside on Saturday as hirsute Padres catcher Derek Norris came up to the plate in the second inning, and continued on for almost five minutes, with pauses to update any action in the game.

The only thing more fun than listening to Scully explain the biological importance of the beard is the image of him sitting down the night before and typing “Beards” into Google.
