Saint Louis University decided its new mascot was too horrifying to live

Saint Louis University’s new Billiken was too frightening to survive.

Saint Louis University ruined my entire day two weeks ago when it unveiled a new mascot.

The school replaced the dopey, lovable Billiken with a winking gargoyle. It’s frankly kind of upsetting but I have to include a picture for the purposes of this post.

Look, I told you it was bad. Dan O’Neill of the St. Louis Post-Dispatch said it’s a “creepy, two-faced stalker” that should be called Killiken. 

SLU eventually caved to the criticism and decided it was time to kill the Billiken before he could kill anyone himself.

I’m begging SLU, do not merely discard the ill-conceived Billiken. Burn the suit, lock the ashes in a safe and throw it into the Mississippi River. It’ll come alive and seek revenge if you don’t.
