The sports complex in downtown Melbourne, Australia, has a bit of a seagull problem, and it almost took a dark turn on Wednesday.

During the FFA Cup final between Melbourne City and Sydney FC, a seagull was struck by pass and laid motionless on the ground. It looked like the bird was done for, but Sydney goalkeeper Danny Vukovic came to the rescue and ushered the fowl to safety.

“Give him the kiss of life, Danny!” the announcer implored.

Flocks of seagulls have been interrupting games at the stadium, and the adjacent Melbourne Cricket Ground, for years. Officials tried to keep the birds at bay by installing wires, but it obviously didn’t work.
