2024 American Express Full Field: 22 of World Top 50 Begins West Coast Swing
After opening the season with two weeks in Hawaii, the PGA Tour comes to the mainland for its familiar West Coast swing.
The American Express—which longtime golf fans still call the Bob Hope—is contested across three different courses in La Quinta with a 54-hole cut instead of the usual cut after two rounds. Sunday players then all take on the Pete Dye Stadium Course.
Twenty-two of the top 50 in the OWGR are entered in the $8.4 million event including four in the top 10: No. 1 Scottie Scheffler, No. 5 Patrick Cantlay, No. 6 Xander Schauffele and No. 10 Wyndham Clark.
Four-time Tour winner Daniel Berger, recovering from more than a year of back issues, is competing for the first time since the 2022 U.S. Open. Also in the field is PGA of America professional Michael Block, the darling of last year's PGA Championship at Oak Hill. He's playing this week and at next week's Farmers Insurance Open by virtue of winning his PGA section championship.
One notable absence is defending champion Jon Rahm, who has departed for LIV Golf. He also missed defending his title at the Sentry two weeks ago. The winner in 2022, Hudson Swafford, also left for LIV, leaving Si Woo Kim (2021) as the most recent winner in the field.
