This new video from the Wall Street Journal proposes just that, casting film of the champion horses' respective Belmont Stakes victories side by side, offering the closest we'll get to them sharing the track. 

The horses are timestamped by distance so viewers can track who's winning at each juncture. Spoiler alert: it's not a secret that Secretariat's time of 2:24 edges out American Pharoah's 2:26:65, but it's certainly fun to see the two horses race together, and to imagine what if.
