Minnesota Twins' second-half preview: Sellers at the trade deadline
Minnesota Twins
Record: 44-50
Standing: 5th in AL Central
Team Leaders:
Batting Average: Kurt Suzuki, .309
Home Runs: Brian Dozier, 18
ERA: Phil Hughes, 3.92
The Twins spent most of the first half of the season around .500, but went through two five-game losing streaks in the month of June and entered the All-Star break six games under .500.
Joe Mauer, who made the transition from catcher to first base, has struggled this season, batting .271 with two home runs and 28 RBIs in 76 games. Mauer is on the 15-day DL with a strained oblique. His replacement behind the plate, Kurt Suzuki, has been a bright spot for Minnesota. He leads the team in batting average at .309, and has 37 RBIs on the season. Suzuki made the All-Star team for the first time in his career.
The Twins will be in the sellers market as the July 31 trade deadline approaches; Josh Willingham, Kendrys Morales, Kevin Correia, and Suzuki could all be traded.
