Marlins trade Steve Cishek to Cardinals for pitching prospect
The Miami Marlins have traded reliever Steve Cishek to the St. Louis Cardinals for minor-league pitcher Kyle Barraclough, the Marlins announced Friday.
Cishek, 29, has a 4.50 ERA and 28 strikeouts in 32 innings with four blown saves in seven opportunities this season. He converted 34 saves in 2013 and 39 last season before being replaced as the primary closer by A.J. Ramos this year. He was briefly demoted to Double A to work on his struggles.
Cishek was drafted by the Marlins in the fifth round of the 2007 draft, and has spent his entire six-year career in Miami.
Barraclough, 25, was the Cardinals' seventh-round pick in 2012. He had a 0.60 ERA in 11 games at A-ball this season before being promoted to Double A, where he has posted a 3.28 ERA in 23 games with eight saves.
