Report: Orioles, Dexter Fowler agree to three-year deal
The Baltimore Orioles have agreed to a three-year deal worth $35 million with free-agent outfielder Dexter Fowler, reports ESPN’s Buster Olney.
Fowler, 29, hit a career-high 17 home runs and batted .270 with 46 RBIs last season as a member of the Chicago Cubs. A switch-hitter, Fowler batted .326 with 13 home runs and a .399 OBP from the right side.
Fowler also recorded 10 hits, two of which were home runs, in the Cubs’ postseason run to the National League Championship Series. He served as the primary center fielder and lead-off hitter for the Cubs, but could play right field in Baltimore due to the presence of Adam Jones.
With a reported deal between the Orioles and free-agent starter Yovani Gallardo potentially in jeopardy after the team reviewed the results of Gallardo’s physical, it is unclear whether the Fowler contract is an indicator that Baltimore and the righthander have ended their talks.
