Pirates’ Ryan Vogelsong placed on disabled list after taking pitch to face
Pirates pitcher Ryan Vogelsong left Monday’s game against the Rockies after getting hit in the face by a pitch while batting in the bottom of the second.
Pirates pitcher Ryan Vogelsong was placed on the 15-day disabled list Tuesday with facial fractures.
The veteran righthander left Monday’s game against the Rockies after getting hit in the face by a pitch while batting in the bottom of the second.
Vogelsong stood in for an 0–2 pitch, and was hit by a Jordan Lyles fastball right near where the brim of the helmet meets the left earflap. He was down in pain but moving, then carted off the field. He was placed in a neck brace and taken to a nearby hospital in an ambulance.
Vogelsong’s wife tweeted Monday night that her husband “will be OK.”
The Pirates recalled righthander A.J. Schugel to take Vogelsong’s roster spot.
