Superstar Pitcher Open To Two-Year Deal; Could Yankees Make Surprise Signing?

Could New York end up actually making one more shocking move?

The 2024 season is just under two weeks away and yet there still are some intriguing free agents out there looking for new homes.

This offseason has been one of the most odd in recent memory and somehow there are some top-tier free agents available still. The most shocking player still out there without a doubt is two-time Cy Young Award winner Blake Snell.

Snell has been linked to the New York Yankees but has been looking for a massive deal and clubs haven't met his asking price.

Things seem to have changed and now Snell reportedly is open to a two-year deal, according to USA Today Sports' Bob Nightengale.

"Two-time Cy Young winner Blake Snell has informed the Houston Astros that he’s willing to sign a short-term deal to join them, but is seeking at least a two-year guarantee for $66 million, that includes an opt-out after the 2024 season," Nightengale said. "The Astros are intrigued, club officials say, but are the latest team to balk at his asking price.

"The Astros, who began exchanging proposals with agent Scott Boras earlier in the week, are waiting to see if the price tag drops. The Astros’ concern is that they will be over the third luxury tax threshold if they sign Snell."

Houston surprisingly has popped up as a possible option in recent days but the Yankees have been linked to him even more so. At this point a signing certainly seems unlikely, but if his asking price keeps dropping, could things change?
