Gabby Douglas, Aly Raisman to compete at Jesolo Cup
USA Gymnastics has named reigning Olympic all-around champion Gabby Douglas and Aly Raisman to the senior squad for the Jesolo Cup in Italy on March 19-20.
Douglas and Raisman are joined by MyKayla Skinner, Laurie Hernandez, Ragan Smith, Ashton Locklear, Emily Schild, Sydney Johnson-Scharpf and Emily Gaskins.
Douglas is coming off a win at the 2016 AT&T American Cup.
Simone Biles, who turned 19 on Monday, took the victory last year in Jesolo but will not return in 2016. She is expected to open her campaign next month.
• American Cup takeaways: Gabby Douglas returns with win
Douglas and Raisman returned to action at last year’s Jesolo competition, which marked their first meet since the 2012 Olympics in London. Raisman was third and Douglas fourth in the all-around. This will be Raisman’s first competition since she finished fifth in the all-around qualifying at the World Championships last fall, but did not advance to the final. Biles and Douglas were the two Americans through due to the maximum two per country rule.
Biles went on to win her third straight gold medal in the all-around while Douglas earned silver.
