NBA commissioner Adam Silver said he hopes to continue negotiations this fall with the players’ union on a collective bargaining agreement.

Silver told the Boston Globe that has “been talking on a regular basis” with union chief Michele Roberts and hopes to have additional discussions.

“We’re looking forward to engaging with the union,” Silver told the Globe. “We have a labor relations committee formed. She has her executive committee. We hope to get together this fall and continue the discussions we’ve been having on a staff level.”

The players can opt out of the CBA in 2017 and the union has said it plans to exercise that option. Roberts said in June that the union and league would begin negotiations in August, earlier than negotiations on any previous CBA have begun.

The main point of contention is expected to be the distribution of basketball-related income, which is currently split at roughly 50–50. The total amount of BRI is set to increase dramatically, thanks to the league’s new nine-year, $24 billion television deal
