Magic Johnson responded to Klay Thompson’s playful comments from Sunday, tweeting Tuesday that the “Showtime” Los Angeles Lakers would defeat today’s Golden State Warriors.

“I disagree with Mychal Thompson and his son Klay, my ‘Showtime’ Lakers would beat the Warriors,” Johnson tweeted.

While meeting with the media following the Warriors’ 110–77 victory in Game 2 of the NBA Finals on Sunday, Thompson joked that his team is, in fact, better than those Lakers teams, which included his father Mychal.

“We are better than the ‘Showtime’ Lakers,” Thompson told reporters.

The elder Thompson and Johnson played together with the Lakers from 1987–91, winning two championships during that stretch. Johnson was part of Lakers’ teams that won five titles from 1980–88.
