The Chicago Bulls have traded guard Derrick Rose to the New York Knicks, the Knicks announced Wednesday.
The Bulls will acquire Robin Lopez, Jerian Grant and Jose Calderon in the trade. The Knicks will also receive Justin Holiday and a 2017 second-round pick.
The deal was first reported by K.C. Johnson of the Chicago Tribune.
Chicago selected Rose with the No. 1 overall pick of the 2008 draft. He quickly established himself as one of the top guards in the league, becoming the youngest player ever to win MVP in 2011. However, Rose’s career has since been derailed by knee injuries, starting in 2012 when he tore his ACL.
Rose missed all of the next season, then sparsely played in 2013–14, tearing his right meniscus after only 10 games.
A Chicago native, Rose endeared himself to Bulls fans early in his career, though some frustrations grew as his injuries mounted. In 2015–16, Rose enjoyed his healthiest year since 2012, but his struggles on the court, reported discord with Jimmy Butler and a failure to make the playoffs clouded his return.

Rose’s contract, worth over $21 million this upcoming season, expires next summer, which could clear up significant cap space for the Knicks.
Grant, 23, was a first-round pick in last year’s draft. Lopez is in the second year of a four-year contract, while Calderon is in the final year of his deal.
News of the trade comes a day before the NBA draft, with Chicago holding the 14th pick and the Knicks without a first-round selection.
