What If Spurs Didn't Win Draft Lottery, Victor Wembanyama?

Victor Wembanyama is the San Antonio Spurs cornerstone, but what if they didn't win the NBA Draft Lottery?

SAN ANTONIO - The San Antonio Spurs won the NBA Draft Lottery, and they're thankful for having done so ... but what if they didn't?

It's enough to make their fans shutter at the thought. The entire narrative around the franchise would be completely different. Would it have gotten out that they had already had talks with the City of San Antonio about a new, closer to downtown arena? Would the entire NBA world be focused on the Spurs? The answers are probably not and absolutely not.

But they did win the lottery. They didn't win a billion dollars like the mega winner this week but they certainly won something in drafting Victor Wembanyama. Estimates show he's already increased the club's value by hundreds of millions of dollars and there's no telling what it'll rise to if Wemby is even half of what the hype around him predicts.

Wembanyama not only has the returning vets singing his praises but the prospect of winning has guys on this team willing to do just about anything to taste success. The Spurs have landed the beautiful girl. Not the one you hit up sometimes late at night but the one you take home to meet your mama. It's been a great honeymoon so far between Wemby and the Spurs. The club starts doing some real winning next season and they can look forward to many more anniversaries.
