Kyle Long, the Chicago Bears' 2013 first-round pick, has a viral infection and will be sidelined for the start of training camp, reports Brad Biggs of the Chicago Tribune

Long, the son of Hall of Famer Howie and brother of St. Louis Rams defensive end Chris, started all 16 games at right guard his rookie year and made the Pro Bowl.

Long is on the active physically unable to perform list. While he is on the PUP list, Long cannot practice, but he is eligible to be activated at any time during training camp. The infection has caused Long to lose some strength. Biggs reports that the plan is to re-evaluate Long in a week and that Bears GM Phil Emery does not believe the infection to be serious.
