The Saints signed tight end Travis Beckum to a contract Wednesday, the team announced

Beckum was a third-round draft choice by the Giants in 2009. He spent four seasons with the team but saw little playing time. In 48 games he has only 26 career receptions for 264 yards.

Beckum tore his ACL in Super Bowl XLVI in February 2012. Fellow Giants tight end Jake Ballard suffered the same injury in that game and announced his retirement last week, citing the injury as a major factor in his decision.

Beckum did not play in the NFL in 2013. He signed with the Seahawks in February but was released in May.
