San Francisco 49ers running back LaMichael James will make his preseason debut Sunday, a month after dislocating his right elbow, head coach Jim Harbaugh said in a press conference Friday

James is listed behind Frank Gore and Carlos Hyde on the 49ers' depth chart and is the team's primary kick returner. In 2013, James rushed 12 times for 59 yards and averaged 10.9 yards per punt return and 26.8 yards per kickoff return.

James returned to practice Wednesday. Harbaugh said he expects the third-year back to "do more than just return kicks," according to a report from Taylor Price of 49ers.com.

San Francisco selected James out of Oregon in the second round of the 2012 draft. In college, James was a consensus All-American in 2010, when he won the Doak Walker Award for the nation's best running back, and came in third in Heisman Trophy voting.
