Bills wide receiver Sammy Watkins will miss Buffalo's preseason game against the Buccaneers on Saturday afternoon, the team announced.

The rookie sustained bruised ribs in last Saturday's game in Pittsburgh. He returned to practice on Tuesday, but did not participate in team drills. The Bills did not release the results of X-rays on Watkins' ribs, and head coach Doug Marrone hasn't given a timetable for his return.

The 21-year-old Watkins, who was the fourth pick of 2014 draft, has three catches for 21 yards in three preseason games.

The Bills open the regular season in Chicago on Sept. 7.
