Patriots rookie quarterback Jimmy Garoppolo is expected to start New England's preseason finale against the Giants, according to ESPN's Adam Schefter.

Schefter adds that with Garoppolo expected to play the "majority, if not all" of the game, the Patriots are still unsure who will be the No. 2 quarterback.

Ian Rapoport of the NFL Network reports that the Patriots are expected to keep Ryan Mallett out of the game while they consider possible trades but won't make a deal until "they feel comfortable in Jimmy Garoppolo as a backup."

Could the New England Patriots trade Ryan Mallett soon?

Sam Bradford's injury has fueled speculation that the Rams may be interested in acquiring another quarterback.

The Patriots selected Garoppolo in the second round of this year's draft. He completed nine of 12 passes for 105 yards and a touchdown in New England's third preseason game.

Mallet was a third-round pick in 2011. He has only thrown four passes in his career.
