The Miami Dolphins are reportedly "strongly considering" not putting starting center Mike Pouncey on the physically unable to perform in hopes he can play in late September, the Miami Herald's Barry Jackson reports.

The Dolphins must get their roster down to the league-mandated 53 players by 4 p.m. ET on Saturday.

NFL Power Rankings Update: Preseason Week Four

Pouncey had surgery in June to repair a torn labrum in his hip and hasn’t participated in practices or in games.

The Dolphins could put Pouncey on the PUP list, which will cause him to miss the first six regular-season games, but he would not be allowed to practice with the team while on the list.

Pouncey, 25, is entering his fourth season with the Dolphins after being the No. 15 pick in the 2011 NFL draft.

Miami opens the regular season Sept. 7 against the New England Patriots.
