Kansas City Chiefs running back Jamaal Charles has a sprained left ankle and his prognosis is unclear, reports ESPN's Adam Schefter.

According to Schefter, Charles' return is predicated on how he feels moving on the ankle, meaning there's no set timeline for his recovery.

Charles injured his ankle in the first quarter of the Chiefs' 24-17 loss to the Denver Broncos on Sunday and left the game. He had two carries for four yards before he exited.

Charles, currently in his seventh NFL season, led the AFC last year with 1,287 rushing yards and 12 touchdowns.

The Chiefs, 0-2, travel to the Miami Dolphins next Sunday in Week 3.
