Buffalo Bills head coach Rex Ryan said that linebacker IK Enemkpali will serve as a captain for Thursday’s game against the Jets, he announced in his press conference on Monday.

Enemkpali was released by the Jets after punching Jets quarterback Geno Smith in August. The Bills claimed Enemkpali off waivers soon after.

Smith missed time due a broken jaw. Enemkpali was suspended for the first four games of the season for violating the NFL’s personal conduct policy.

“I do this all the time,” Ryan said. “Anybody that's [previously played for the opposing team] you’re going to see. Will [tight end Matthew] Mulligan be out there? Yep, he’ll be out there. For them, you put them out there, you recognize their teammates and all that, their former teammates.”

Buffalo guard Richie Incognito was a captain for two games against the Miami Dolphins this season after playing for them from 2010 to 2013. The entire offensive line was named captain for the game against the Jacksonville Jaguars as former Bills head coach Doug Marrone now serves as the Jaguars’ offensive line coach.

Ryan also joked about making himself a captain against the Jets.
