Bills wide receiver Sammy Watkins has been placed on the injured reserve with a foot injury and will miss the next eight weeks of the season, according to NFL Media's Ian Rapoport.

Watkins has not seen the field since Week 2, where he battled through pain to play in a loss to the Jets. He did not practice all week, and insisted that his foot, which was surgically repaired over the off-season, was simply tired and needed rest.

The 23-year-old caught 60 passes for 1,047 yards and nine touchdowns in 13 games last season. He has not looked the same in 2016, totaling just six receptions for 63 yards.

The Bills have claimed Justin Hunter.

The Patriots will host the Bills at 1 p.m. ET on Sunday.
