Geno Smith out for season with torn ACL
Jets quarterback Geno Smith tore his ACL in Sunday’s win over the Ravens and will miss the remainder of the season, coach Todd Bowles confirmed on Monday. Ryan Fitzpatrick will take over as starter.
NFL.com’s Ian Rapoport first reported the news.
Smith, who was making his first start of the season, was taken to the locker room to be evaluated for a knee injury in the second quarter and ruled out for the rest of the game after halftime. Ryan Fitzpatrick, who was benched in favor of Smith during last week’s loss to the Cardinals, came in to replace him and won the game.
Coach Todd Bowles forgave Fitzpatrick for controversial comments he made on Sunday about the entire organization giving up on him.
The 26-year-old started just one game in 2015 after losing his job to Fitzpatrick over the off-season.
