Patriots Fan Died After Incident at Gillette Stadium During ’SNF,' per Report
A Patriots fan reportedly died on Sunday night after the team’s matchup against the Dolphins following an incident in the stands at Gillette Stadium, according to Boston 25 News.
The Norfolk District Attorney’s Office identified the individual as 53-year-old Dale Mooney, a New Hampshire native.
Massachusetts State Police indicate that Mooney suffered from an “apparent medical event” during the fourth quarter of the game in the 300s section of the stadium at around 11:00 p.m. EST. He was rushed to the nearby Sturdy Memorial Hospital in Attleboro, where he was later pronounced dead just before midnight.
One witness alleges that the victim was struck by a “vicious” punch which left him unresponsive for four-to-five minutes before medical help arrived and began compressions, per the report.
Mooney’s wife, Lisa, told Boston 25 that, “According to stadium footage, Dale never threw a punch.”
A state police spokesperson said Monday afternoon that detectives were investigating the “facts and circumstances of the man's death, including the sequence of events prior to the medical incident.”
Lisa Mooney told 7NEWS that Dale, a father of two adult sons, had been a Patriots season-ticket holder for 30 years.
