ESPN’s Robert Griffin III Had Perfect Explanation for Dropping Expletive on Live TV

ESPN NFL and college football analyst Robert Griffin III got heated, to say the least, on Tuesday when discussing the Denver Broncos’ plans to release quarterback Russell Wilson. Griffin, a former quarterback, went as far as to curse on national television when discussing the impending move on ESPN’s Get Up and then took the time to perfectly justify the NSFW language on X (formerly Twitter).

“The Denver Broncos wanted Russell Wilson to make Chicken Salad out of Chicken S---,” Griffin said on X. “Conversation got so heated I forgot the salad just like the Broncos forgot to fully support Russell Wilson.”

Griffin’s initial quote on the situation blamed the Broncos for setting Wilson up to fail by surrounding him with inexperienced coaches and executives. 

“I think the bottom line is when you bring in a quarterback of that caliber and you cater it to him, you have to fully cater it to him,” Griffin said on Get Up on Tuesday. “Not put him in an offense with a first-time head coach, a first-time play-caller, a first-time GM and a young team, and expect him to make chicken out of chicken s---!” 

In his first year with Denver in 2022, the team did feature first-time head coach Nathaniel Hackett and first-time offensive coordinator Justin Outten—who were both fired by the team after that one season. General manager George Paton, who remains on the job, had one year of experience before the team traded for Wilson, though. 

Wilson completed 66.4% of his passes for 3,070 yards and 26 touchdown to go along with his eight interceptions in 2023.
