Zach Wilson Taking Taylor Swift's Advice

Beleaguered quarterback responds to comments from Hall-of-Famer

With Taylor Swift reportedly set to attend Sunday night's game, New York Jets' quarterback Zach Wilson appears to be following the singer/songwriter's advice.

When it comes to the fierce criticism that Wilson has faced in recent days, the 24-year-old seemed eager to "shake it off" while addressing reporters after Thursday's practice in Florham Park.

Wilson, who owns the lowest quarterback rating in the NFL, was specifically asked if he's bothered by the harsh public comments from Jets' legend Joe Namath and the third-year pro provided a level-headed response.

"I don’t think so. Obviously, Joe is an unbelievable player, but this locker room is very tightknit. We’re working to get better. I’m working to get better," said Wilson. "I know I need to improve and I promise I’m doing everything that I can to keep trying to get better."

During a guest interview on ESPN Radio's The Michael Kay Show, the 80-year-old Namath delivered a scathing indictment of Wilson's tenure as a Jet.

"I don’t believe in him. I don’t believe he has a future as a good player. And I think they made the wrong choice when they drafted him," said Namath.

Wilson, however, claims he's unfazed by the harsh words.

"I don’t know if I would say it fuels me because I like to ignore it," said the former No. 2 overall draft pick. "I get the passion and the frustration absolutely, but my job as a quarterback is to focus on how I can get better, how I can help this offense score, how I can help us win games."

Even with the addition of veteran quarterback Trevor Siemian earlier this week, Wilson will be the starter against the Kansas City Chiefs on Sunday Night Football.

"I think the guys are feeling very optimistic. We all believe in each other, we’re all right there. Excited for this week."

Wilson and his teammates will likely have the chance to shake it off in front of Swift on Sunday. The Top 40 hit machine, who is in a relationship with Chiefs' tight end Travis Kelce, attended Kansas City's Week 3 game at Arrowhead Stadium and will reportedly display her support at MetLife Stadium, too.
