Counting up to the National Football League's cutdown day, our Jets Country player profile series continues with the punter who has switched to jersey No. 5 in his second stint with Gang Green — Thomas Morstead.

The 37-year old specialist enters his 15th season as a pro after signing a free-agent deal with the Jets this offseason.

Morstead spent the 2022 campaign with the Miami Dolphins, averaging 46.4 yards per boot and placed 28 of his 61 punts inside the opponent's 20-yard line.

It'll be his second go-around with the Green & White. He played part of the 2021 season with the Jets as a fill-in for an injured Braden Mann. After punting in seven games for New York, he was released upon Mann’s return and landed with the Atlanta Falcons for the remainder of the season.

Morstead's first 12 NFL seasons came as a New Orleans Saint. The 2009 fifth-round draft pick has appeared in 221 games and owns a career 46.5 punting average (41.6 net).

Morstead is the lone punter on the Jets' 90-man roster and appears locked into starting duties for the 2023 campaign.
