NFL Draft: Ravens Continue Stacking Weapons for QB Lamar Jackson in First-Round Mock
The Baltimore Ravens have a quarterback situation that can't be fixed in the NFL Draft. Or, perhaps it could be if the Ravens used their first-round pick on another receiver addition who would then join free agent addition Odell Beckham Jr. in a suddenly improved stash of weapons for quarterback Lamar Jackson to utilize.
In a recent NFL.com mock draft, that's exactly what Baltimore does by selecting USC's Jordan Addison at pick No. 22.
"The Ravens already added Odell Beckham Jr. and Nelson Agholor in free agency but need more firepower in the pass game for Lamar Jackson," says NFL.com. "They continue to load up on receivers with Addison, a do-it-all talent who can stretch the field."
Stretching the field is something the Ravens would love to do more of, and surely Jackson would appreciate being able to do it.
Last season, Jackson and the Baltimore passing attack was middle of the pack when targeting receivers deep, and that fact helped defenses play closer to the line of scrimmage to try and counter the quarterback's mobility.
Supporting the idea that Addison would help the Ravens achieve this goal is Lance Zierlein of NFL.com who evaluated the young receiver for his official draft profile.
"(Addison is an) inside/outside wideout with the speed and agility to work confident on all three levels of the field," writes Zierlein. "Addison's route running features acceleration, dynamic steering and sudden turns at a moment's notice."
If the addition of Beckham isn't enough to coax Jackson back from this stalemate we've been witnessing, perhaps adding a Day 1 talent like Addison could do the trick.
And if not, Baltimore could always try adding another veteran as well.
