Rangers center Derek Stepan beat Maple Leafs goalie Jonathan Bernier from the red line for a go-ahead goal in Sunday’s game.
Stepan brought the puck out of his defensive zone and tossed the puck down toward Bernier’s net from center ice. Bernier squeezed his pads together but the puck trickled through his legs to give New York a 2–1 lead.
Stepan couldn’t help but smile.

Toronto tied the game four minutes later when Joffrey Lupul pushed a rebound past Antti Raanta, and the game headed to the second intermission tied 2–2.
Bernier had not played since Oct. 31 due to a lower-body injury.
