San Diego Padres stopped a pair of skids with a dramatic win over San Francisco Giants and is in a position to win the series at Petco Park on Wednesday.

The San Diego Padres (62-51) broke a five-game losing streak on Tuesday with a walk-off win over the San Francisco Giants (54-56) to keep their grip on the final wild-card spot in the National League. On Wednesday afternoon, the Padres can win the three-game series with another victory. San Diego is a game ahead of the Brewers for the third wild-card position and trails Philadelphia by a game for the second spot. The Padres have now taken seven of 12 from San Francisco this season after snapping out of a 26-inning scoreless stretch. The Giants, meanwhile, fell six-and-a-half games back in the wild-card race.

San Diego finally scored a run in the fourth inning when Juan Soto hit his first home run for his new team. The Padres coughed up a 4-1 lead in the ninth with back-to-back bases-loaded walks followed by a sacrifice fly. But Manny Machado hit a walk-off three-run homer to end it.

Lefty Sean Manaea draws the assignment for San Diego on Wednesday. In 20 starts, he is 6-6 with a 4.74 ERA and 1.325 WHIP in 114 innings while fanning 118. He lost Friday at Dodger Stadium when he was lit up for eight runs in four innings.

San Francisco counters with right-hander Jakob Junis. He's appeared in 13 games and started 10 and is 4-3 with a 3.05 ERA and 1.097 WHIP in 62 innings. Junis also had a rough go of it on Thursday, losing to the Dodgers after surrendering three runs in three-and-two-thirds innings.
