USMNT Looks for Better Performance in Final World Cup Tune-Up

Plus, Judge goes for No. 61, and the Cardinals look to clinch the NL Central.

Cooper Rush can’t be beaten.

There aren’t many style points involved, but the Cowboys’ backup QB has led Dallas to a pair of wins with Dak Prescott sidelined, including last night’s big road victory over the Giants. While we wait to see what Rush can do next Sunday against the Commanders, we’ve got plenty of action worth watching until then.

Today’s slate is headlined by the final tune-up match for the USMNT before the World Cup. Plus, the Yankees and Cardinals can wrap up their divisions tonight with wins, and Aaron Judge goes for homer No. 61.

A quick note: Due to COVID-19, sports schedules are fluid and subject to change.

International Friendly: Saudi Arabia vs. United States

The USMNT’s performance in Friday’s friendly against Japan was simply not good enough. The U.S. failed to put a shot on target, struggled to maintain possession and never was able to put its footprint on the game in a performance Brian Straus called the team’s worst since a World Cup qualifier against Panama nearly a year ago. Will we see a better performance today against Saudi Arabia, which is also headed to the World Cup in two months? The U.S. doesn’t have a full roster available due to injuries, but it needs to inspire some confidence in the team’s last game before getting underway in Qatar in November.

• UEFA Nations League: Spain at Portugal | Both these sides’ World Cup prep has been hindered by big-name players not getting regular action with their clubs, so competitive matches like this one are all the more important. Getting Cristiano Ronaldo going will be critical for Portugal as it figures out how much to feature him throughout the World Cup, while Spain is looking to bounce back from an inauspicious performance last time out in a home loss to Switzerland. 2:45 p.m. ET, Fubo Sports Network, watch on fuboTV

• Tampa Bay Rays at Cleveland Guardians | No one in the American League is playing better baseball right now than the Guardians, who have won seven straight and nine of 10 to lock up the AL Central. This could end up being a postseason preview if the Rays drop to the No. 6 seed in the AL, though they currently sit a half-game ahead of the Mariners for that spot. 6:10 p.m. ET, Bally Sports Sun/Great Lakes, watch on fuboTV

• New York Yankees at Toronto Blue Jays | The Yankees can officially lock up the AL East tonight with a win, but all eyes remain on Aaron Judge as he looks for his record-tying 61st home run. Is tonight the night? It’d be poetic if it came off Blue Jays starter José Berríos, given Judge’s first home run this season also came off Berrios. 7:07 p.m. ET, YES/Sportsnet/TBS, watch on fuboTV

HIDDEN GEM:

St. Louis Cardinals at Milwaukee Brewers

The Cardinals clinch the NL Central with a win tonight in Milwaukee, but the Brewers have tons to play for down the stretch. Milwaukee is in hot pursuit of the stumbling Phillies, who’ve lost seven of 10 to jeopardize their playoff hopes. Trailing by just 1.5 games, will the Brewers put another dent in that deficit tonight at home? They’ll need a strong start from Adrian Houser, who has struggled this season. After this two-game series against the Cards, the Brewers round out the season with six home games against non-playoff teams.
