Franck Haise’s side would still require PSG to drop points in its visit to Montpellier in order to get the jump on the reigning champion, however, as a miraculous campaign continues for ‘Les Sang et Or’. Nice is beginning to build a resilient run of its own after going three games unbeaten for the first time this calendar year, having gone without defeat since losing at PSG on Oct. 10.

In some ways, Lens represents what Nice might have been this season had the French Riviera outfit been able to turn some of its seven draws into wins.

Currently 10th in the table, the club’s 20 goals conceded so far this term is the best record of any team outside the top five, but a misfiring attack has failed to capitalize.

However, Lucien Favre’s departure in early January has perhaps signaled a change in fortunes, with interim boss Didier Digard heralding his arrival with a 6-1 demolition of Montpellier.

The Eaglets have since clinched a valuable draw away at hard-to-beat Reims and edged Lille 1-0 at home over the weekend, suggesting Digard is the man to take the team back into European contention.

Lens is looking for more of the same but encounters a major threat on Wednesday, even if the club did triumph 3-0 the last time it hosted Nice in April 2022.

Haise’s outfit is yet to drop so much as a point at home in 10 outings so far this season, and the slightest slip could see them lose precious ground on PSG.

Youcef Atal could return to Nice’s XI after the wing-back recovered from injury, while new signing Terem Moffi will hope to feature after joining on loan from Lorient this week.
