Kristin, 15, led the U.S. women's team to the silver medal at the Pacific Alliance gymnastics meet while also earning a silver medal in the individual all-around and a bronze on beam. Earlier this year she was ninth at the Olympic trials and eighth at the nationals in the all-around. At last year's junior nationals she finished second in the all-around.

Schieffelin, 81, ran the New York City Marathon in 7:07:27 to win the women's 80-89 age group. A runner for 20 years, she has completed six of the last seven New York City Marathons and has a personal best of 6:32:06. Next month she plans to run the Pyramids half marathon in Cairo with her son, John, 56, and his son, John, 29.

Nicole, 16, is ranked No. 3 in singles and, with Lindsey Davenport, 16, of Murrieta, Calif., No. 1 in doubles in the USTA girls' 18-and-under division. The duo won the Australian and U.S. Open girls' doubles titles. Nicole reached the second round in women's singles at the U.S. Open and this fall was 30-0 for the Peninsula High team.
Buchanan, 52, a periodontist, became the first over-50 athlete to break 10 hours in the Ironman Triathlon, when he crossed the line in 9:52:36 to shatter the over-50 record he had set in 1991 by 16:33. He swam 2.4 miles in 1:01:55, biked 112 miles in 5:19:14 and ran 26.2 miles in 3:31:27 to place 194th overall and complete his fifth of six Ironmen.
Williams, a senior outside hitter, led the UCLA women's volleyball team to a 29-0 regular-season record with 4.84 kills per game and the sixth-best hitting percentage in the country (.412). She was named Pac-10 women's Player of the Year and she led the two-time national-champion Bruins to the NCAA Final Four.
Alex, a senior running back at Franklin County High, set state rushing records for a single game (417), single season (3,024) and career (6,895 on 832 carries) while leading the Wildcats to a 9-2 mark this season and a 35-10 four-year record. He has scored 105 TDs and 662 points in his career and has been nominated for Mr. Indiana Football.
