On Feb. 22, D-III Caltech upended Occidental 46--45, snapping an NCAA-record 310-game conference losing streak that had spanned seven U.S. presidential terms. Over 26 years Caltech highlights have been rare on the court but frequent off it: Beavers ballers—many of whom have gone on to earn Ph.D.'s in biochemistry, physics and economics—have been known to play games after pulling all-nighters to finish 13-hour midterms.
