When you first were approached with the idea of wearing body paint, what was your reaction?
Alex Morgan: I had a lot of mixed emotions. But once I looked online [at the past bodypaint editions], I felt a little more comfortable, seeing that they really were wearing something—in a way. It really looked like they were wearing a bathing suit.
If you were going to pick a teammate to pose in the Swimsuit Issue, who would it be?
AM: Probably either Heather Mitts, because she's done that sort of thing before, or maybe Shannon Boxx, because she has a really ripped body.
What if you were going to pick someone from the men's team?
AM: I have no idea. I'm sure they all have really nice bodies. But body paint probably doesn't look good on guys.
Would you do it again?
As a woman, how much do looks play into your success? Do you have to use them to capitalize, since there's not that big payday as with male athletes?
AM: It's difficult because women don't get paid the same as guys do. So we do need to branch out and look at different avenues to make more for ourselves. There are some things like modeling, but other athletes can do things like coaching or broadcasting.
