BEREA, OHIO > TRACK AND FIELD
Donovan, a senior at Berea High, won the indoor 60-meter hurdles in a U.S. high school record 7.57 seconds at the Brooks PR Invitational in Seattle. Two weeks later he won the indoor national title in the same event (7.70). Last June, Donovan defended his outdoor 300-meter hurdles Division I state title and was named Ohio's Gatorade track and field boys' athlete of the year. He will run next year for Ohio State.
CHARITY JONES
MIAMI, OKLA. > GYMNASTICS
Charity, a high school junior who takes online classes and trains at Dynamo Gymnastics in Oklahoma City, won the Nastia Liukin Cup all-around title at Madison Square Garden (38.075 points). She placed second in the vault, tied for second in uneven bars and balance beam, and was sixth in floor exercise. Last May, she won the all-around Level 10 title for her age group at the Junior Olympic Championships.
BEN SMITH
NEW MARKET, ALA. > WRESTLING
Ben, a senior at Buckhorn High, bested Thompson High's Brewer Gilliland in an 11--3 major decision in the 132-pound Class 6A finals for his second straight state title and for a Wrestling USA national-career-record 326 victories. Ben, who was 63--2 this season, started wrestling for the varsity at 103 pounds in seventh grade. He broke the state-career wins record with his 276th victory earlier this year.
