INDELIBLE MOMENT "Hello, Heisman!" Eventual Heisman winner Desmond Howard struck the trophy's signature pose in the end zone (which led to announcer Keith Jackson's now famous exclamation) after a 93-yard punt return in a 31--3 Wolverines victory over Ohio State on Nov. 23, 1991.

COLLEGE KNOWLEDGE The stadium is built on land with an underground spring that hindered construction. The quicksand-like surface engulfed a crane that remains under the site. A seat in the stadium is reserved for hallowed athletic director (1941--68) Fritz Crisler, though, as Crisler told SI in '64, "I am the only one who knows where that spot is." He died in 1982.
